Stock Market Tips-Sensex, Nifty at record highs; Polycab up 22% after listing

Nifty50 touched a record high in today's trading as it crossed its earlier high of 11761.

At 09:58 hrs IST, the Sensex is up 285.22 points or 0.73% at 39191.06, and the Nifty up 78.30 points or 0.67% at 11768.70.

Indian indices opened higher on Tuesday with Nifty above 11,700 level.

At 09:17 hrs IST, the Sensex is up 173.03 points or 0.44% at 39078.87, and the Nifty up 51.50 points or 0.44% at 11741.90. About 546 shares have advanced, 156 shares declined, and 30 shares are unchanged. 

Dr Reddy's Lab, Vedanta, Cola India, ICICI Bank, IOC, Asian Paints, Wipro, Hero Moto, JSW Steel , Bharti Airtel, SBI are the major gainers on the indices in the morning trade, while on the other hand Infosys, Tata Motors, HUL and Tata Steel are trading lower.

All the sectoral indices are trading in green led by metal, pharma, energy, auto, infra, bank and IT.

1.                   Maruti Suzuki India closed around 4% lower to at Rs 9,390 on the NSE, after the company reported lower-than-expected 26.9% growth in net profit at Rs 19.75 billion in June quarter (Q1FY19). The country’s largest car maker had profit of Rs 15.56 billion in year ago quarter.

2.                   Shares of YES Bank have slipped 6% to Rs 359 per share on the BSE on profit bookings after the bank reported 30.5% year on year (yoy) jumped in net profit at Rs 12.6 billion in June quarter (Q1FY19) on the back of healthy growth in net interest income (NII) & other income.

3.                   Cement stocks firmed up during Thursday’s afternoon trade after reports emerged that the SC has given its conditional approval to petcoke import. Incidentally, petcoke is used as an alternative to coal in cement manufacturing.

4.                   Idea Cellular stocks rallied after the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) gave the final go-ahead for its merger with Vodafone India.

5.                   Shares of Indiabulls Housing Finance were trading higher over 2% and hit 3-month high in the afternoon trade.

6.                   Dr.Reddy's Labs today announced its decision to launch Hervycta (Trastuzumab), a biosimilar of Roche's Herceptin in India. This is mainly for the treatment of HER2-positive cancers (early breast cancer, metastatic breast cancer, and metastatic gastric cancer).

7.                   State-run Canara Bank reported a surprising 11.9% rise in Q1FY19. Net profit was Rs281cr for the three months ended June 30, compared with Rs252cr a year ago. Due to the optimism surrounding the results, the bank surged at over 4%.

1.                   Shares of railway related stocks such as Titagarh Wagons, Texmaco Rail & Engineering, Cimmco, Hind Rectifiers and Commercial Engineering & Body Builders Company have rallied up to 20%.  The railway is looking at 4,000 km of track renewal in each of the next two financial years --2018-19 and 2019-20. Its estimated cost for 2018-19 is a little above Rs 100 billion.

2.                   Punjab National Bank rose 1.39% to Rs 80.05 on BSE after the bank said it received Rs 2816 crore capital infusion from the government. The announcement was made after market hours yesterday, 23 July 2018.

3.                   Shares of Idea Cellular have surged 16% on the back of heavy volumes in anticipation that the merger with Vodafone is likely to be approved in the next few days.

4.                   Liquor firm Radico Khaitan today reported 84.46 percent jump in its standalone net profit to Rs 47.37 crore for the first quarter of the current fiscal. It had a net profit of Rs 25.68 crore in the first quarter of last fiscal, 2017-18.

5.                   Shares of Delta Corp added 5 percent intraday Tuesday on the back of strong June quarter numbers. The company's Q1 net profit surged 52 percent to Rs 28.61 crore versus Rs 18.81 crore in the same quarter last fiscal. Revenue rose 36.7 percent to Rs 109.91 crore versus Rs 80.36 crore.

6.                   Shares of ACC gained around 13 percent on Tuesday morning as investors cheered the company’s results. The stock touched an intraday high of Rs 1,468.00 and an intraday low of Rs 1,395.10. The company posted a higher-than-expected 1.2 percent rise in second-quarter profit on Monday, helped by a fall in expenses.

1.                   Private sector lender Karnataka Bank has reported highest ever quarterly profit at Rs 163.2 crore, a growth of 22 percent over Rs 133.85 crore recorded in same period last year. The growth was driven by the improvement in asset quality, higher net interest income and operating income.

2.                   Axis Bank board shortlisted three candidates for the position of MD and CEO.

3.                   Ashok Leyland  has gained over 7 per cent in three trading sessions on robust June quarter volume numbers, value unlocking prospects in the near-term, and expectations of a double-digit truck sales growth over the next three years. The rising proportion of non-cyclical business in overall revenues will keep top line growth steady and less volatile.

4.                   Reliance Industries (RIL) market capitalisation (market cap) surpassed the $100 billion mark, after its stock price soaring to a record high of Rs 1,090, up 5% on Thursday on the BSE in intra-day trade. It became the second Indian company to scale the milestone after TCS.

5.                   Shares of airlines and oil marketing companies (OMCs) companies were trading higher by up to 5% on the BSE after the Brent Crude recorded its biggest one-day fall in two years on Wednesday.
